THERE IS NO ALTERNATIVE TO PEACE, SECURITY AND STABILITY IN THE NIGER DELTA – GEN. BOROH
The Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Brig-Gen. Paul Boroh (Rtd) says there is no alternative to peace, security and stability in the Niger Delta region, informing that President Muhammandu Buhari’s sincere commitment to the peace and infrastructural development of the Niger Delta region has built confidence in the people of the region.
Represented by his technical assistant, Major Abdul Matti Marthins (Rtd), at the Miss Peace Bayelsa Beauty Pageant, where he was conferred with the Niger Delta Peace Advocate Award on Sunday night, Gen. Boroh commended former militant leaders in the Niger Delta who convinced their followers to willingly drop arms to accept the federal government’s amnesty proclamation, describing it as a patriotic gesture that gave birth to the present peace and stability in the region.
The Presidential aide said his office was working on a number of empowerment initiatives to meaningfully engage youths in the region, particularly the beneficiaries of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, adding that the present administration is poised to making life more meaningful at the grassroots through what he referred to as “quick impacts projects” to address the immediate needs of the people in the region, such as provision of portable drinking water, health centers, recreational facilities, ICT Centers and Entertainment facilities among other social amenities that would create direct impact on the rural dwellers.
Earlier, the Chief Executive Officer of Miss Peace Bayelsa Beauty Pageant, Mr Sele Adams Tonbie said the event was put together to commemorate the Bayelsa Peace Day, when former militants willingly dropped their arms at the Peace Park in response to the Federal Government’s Presidential Amnesty proclamation, adding that the acceptance of amnesty by the leaders has resulted in the present peaceful atmosphere in the Niger Delta and called on all well-meaning individuals and corporate bodies to support the event.
Other recipients of the Peace award were the Governor of Bayelsa State, Hon. Seriake Dickson, Mr Ebikabowei Victor-Ben (General Boyloaf) and Pastor Reuben. The event attracted dignitaries from all walks of life
